Seth Jacobson: Live/Work Displacement

After founding the Thai Kitchen food brand in 1989, and selling it in 2006 for $97 million to McCormick & Company, Inc. (NYSE:MKC), Jacobson went into real estate investment, purchasing many warehouses in Oakland. He has been converting them into condos and market rate housing, displacing long term artists and tenants. He has partnered with Danny Haber on some properties. By allowing properties to fall into disrepair, he then gets the Dept. of Building on board to displace tenants.

Live/work tenants were displaced in two days with help from Oakland City Building Department. Seth Jacobson owned the building in the years that it was allowed to fall into disrepair. A "transfer" to Danny Haber occurred just before the building was emptied and partially demolished.
